Abstract

Shaanxi Huayin Laoqiang is taken as the research object in this paper. Through long-term immersive observation and in-depth interviews, placeness maintenance and modernity adaptability of the Laoqiang in the performance are analyzed. Under the development of tourism, the performance of modernity and the expression of placeness of Huayin Laoqiang show a structuring process, which is the inevitable result of endogenous paradox of tourism among the tourists, tourism activities and tourism industry. It is also an expedient policy for Huayin Laoqiang to maintain placeness under globalization and a process of the mutual opposition and transformation between modernity and placeness. Subjectively, the coordination in the powers of the official and the folk of the local cultural elites.Motivationally, self-awareness and self-representation responding to the other′s identity through tourism gaze.In the content, the symbolization of daily life and the non-daily performance resulted from the symbolization.In the consequence, the compromise between the placeness ex-situ expression and the non-local performance caused by the transplantation of time and space.
